Context bank

The context bank controls what is eligible as a link target and what is stored in the local index.

Indexed by default

Published posts and pages. Per item, the index stores title, excerpt, headings, cleaned body text, and taxonomy terms — plus the structural fields the ranking and reports need (slug, hierarchy, inbound and outbound internal link counts).

On Free, only post and page are in scope. Custom post types and custom field indexing are Upcoming in Core+ Links Pro.

Excluded by default

Drafts, private content, password-protected content, trash, auto-drafts, revisions, menus, and attachments.

Excluding content

You can exclude specific posts, pages, categories, or tags from the context bank settings.

This is deliberate: without exclusion, a privacy policy or similar utility page would remain in the orphan report permanently, with no action available to resolve it.

Suggested exclusions for utility pages

Core Plus Links can propose pages that look functional rather than editorial — for example checkout, cart, account, privacy policy, or a page that is little more than a shortcode — each with a stated reason.

Nothing is ever excluded automatically. You review each proposal and decide. That matters on sites running directory, membership, or e-commerce plugins, where a fresh install would otherwise keep suggesting links to Login and Checkout.

Structural tags

Taxonomy carries the heaviest weight in scoring (see How ranking works). If a tag is structural rather than topical — for example a “Book List” tag shared by unrelated posts — exclude it. There is no automatic detection of structural tags; that judgment is yours.
